Heating of analytic NDIR gas sensors is highly recommended because of several reasons related to the use case and requirement
- Minimizing the influence of temperature change in measured result
- Ensure the temperature of sensor is in specified range
- Ensure the temperature of sensor is higher than the gas stream temperature to prevent any condensing inside the sensor

Ensure the temperature of sensor is stable after warm up time and not slowly rise by a higher temperature of the gas stream
Wide range of environment temperature change
If a device including NDIR gas sensors can be exposed to a wide range of environment temperature change it is recommended to ensure the module itself has a stable temperature in specified range.
For example an installation situation without air conditioning, where summer/winter or night/day changes have huge influence.
Also a portable device could be stored or transported in a cold environment should be heated up before usage with gas flow.
Risk of Condensing inside the sensor
It is recommended to ensure the temperature of gas path and sensor is higher than the temperature of gas stream itself if there is any risk of condensing.
For example as usage in an emission control system for a combustion process requires the prevention of any humidity condensing what can damage the sensor.
High Accuracy Requirement of measured Result
Every NDIR sensor has a dependency of temperature even if it is temperature compensated.
In case of high accurate measurement requirement it is strongly recommend to ensure that the temperature of the sensor is maximally stable.
